Torrential rains that lashed Kano, Nigeria, on Wednesday, unleashed a devastating flood, wreaking havoc on the city and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The Kano Emirate Road and several parts of the Kabara Quarter were particularly hard hit, as the property was damaged, and residents were forced to flee their homes.

Daily News 24 reports that the downpour, which lasted for several hours, transformed streets into rushing rivers, inundating neighbourhoods and submerging vehicles under the forceful current. The floodwaters surged with such intensity that cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles were helplessly swept away, compounding the scale of the disaster.

Among the areas severely affected was the Kano Emirate Road, a bustling thoroughfare that succumbed to the deluge. The floodwaters surged onto the road, overwhelming its drainage system and leaving it submerged under a torrent of water.

Commuters and pedestrians were stranded, seeking refuge on higher ground as the floodwaters surged around them.

The Kabara Quarter, a densely populated area of Kano, was also mercilessly hit by the flooding.

Homes and businesses in this neighbourhood bore the brunt of the disaster, with the force of the floodwaters causing significant damage to structures and infrastructure.

Residents waded through waist-deep water, salvaging their belongings and seeking safety in temporary shelters.
