The Kogi House of Assembly on Thursday passed into law the Bill for the establishment of a third state university in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Bill was read at plenary for the third time and then passed into law as the Kogi State University (KSU), Kabba.

The speaker of the House, Alhaji Umar Yusuf, had explained that the passage of the Bill has provided the legal framework for the take off of the university approved by Gov. Yahaya Bello’s administration.

He argued that its establishment would greatly help address socio-economic challenges such as unemployment, insecurity and open opportunities for admission to students of Kogi origin.

“Education is a veritable tool which brings about development, which explains the reason for the establishment of a third State University,” he said.

Also passed into law during the business of the day was a Bill for repealing the prohibition of kidnapping and other related offences law 2015, and re-enacting the Kogi State Prohibition of Kidnapping and other related matters law 2023.

The bill has finally provided a legal and legislative framework for the control of the menace of kidnapping in the state.

NAN also reports that the lawmakers also screened and confirmed the appointment of Mr Abraham Omora as Secretary to Ibaji Local Government Council.

The house, however, adjourned sitting to July 8.
