Prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, have recently joined the latest social media platform, Threads, owned by Meta and founded by Mark Zuckerberg.
President Tinubu, since joining the platform, has amassed a following of over 28,000 on Threads.
On his first post, the president shared his inaugural video as president with the caption, “My fellow Tailors, Idan has landed.”
Also, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in his first post on Thread, expressed his congratulations to Kano Pillars, stating, “Hearty congratulations to our dear Masu Gida.”
DailyNews24 reports that notable figures such as the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo Olu, Nigerian entertainers; Yemi Alade, Simi, Rita Dominic, and others have also joined Thread, further expanding the platform’s user base.
Threads has witnessed a significant surge in sign-ups, with more than 30 million people joining following Elon Musk’s implementation of stringent measures on Twitter.
It will be recalled that many Nigerians flocked to Truth Social as an alternative to Twitter.
The extent to which these new platforms can rival Twitter is yet to be seen, but their popularity among Nigerians signals a potential shift.
