Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has outlined conditions for his participation in negotiations with bandits to restore peace in the country.
In a recent interview with Trust TV, Sheikh Gumi emphasized the need for the involvement of emirs, scholars, and university professors with expertise in banditry matters.
“Let’s all sit down together so that we can achieve peace and enable people to return to their farms,” he said.
He expressed his willingness to be part of a government-approved group dedicated to the talks, stating that it is not about leadership but rather a comprehensive approach to addressing the issue.
Regarding former Zamfara State governor Senator Sani Yerima’s call for negotiations and amnesty for bandits, Sheikh Gumi welcomed the suggestion and supported the idea.
He also praised the appointment of Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser, but urged that Ribadu should not be a mere figurehead in the role.
Sheikh Gumi emphasized the need for synergy among security agencies to effectively combat terrorism.
He criticized the lack of coordination among the agencies, which has hampered efforts to address insecurity in the country.
Additionally, he expressed disappointment over the retirement of over 100 Army Generals, considering the investment in their training.
Lastly, Sheikh Gumi called on politicians to avoid politicizing the military and judiciary, acknowledging their vital significance in the nation’s stability and security.
