Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State, on Thursday inducted 46 pioneer graduands of pharmaceutical sciences, with two first class and 13 second class upper degrees.
Speaking at the induction and oath taking ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Williams Qurix, advised the inductees to abide by the ethnic of the profession.
Represented by the deputy vice chancellor, Prof. Dul Johnson, Qurix, said the institution has always been reckoned with excellence and good behaviours from its students.
He advised the inductees to always make a difference in wherever they are and whatever they do.
Qurix admonished them to be of good behaviour and use their profession to better humanity against all odds.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. John Alfa, encouraged the inductees to be good ambassadors of the university.
Alfa said the graduands have acquired necessary knowledge in which they are going to build skills, that would make them excel in the society.
He pleaded with them to reciprocate the hard work of their lecturers by putting in their best in the practice for their own good.
The Chancellor, Bingham University and “Esu Karu”, Luka Panya-Baba, a Pharmacist while addressing the inductees, congratulated them for attaining their professional certificates.
He told theme to always consider themselves as essential segment of the society, and to practice in line with the ethics of the profession.
The Chancellor said that pharmacists play important roles in the society, charging them not to deviate from their functions as medical practitioners.
He commended the management and lecturers of the faith based University for the impact they are making on the younger generation.
The Registrar, Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed, urged the inductees to maintain high ethical conduct and leadership standards set forth by PCN.
Ahmed advised the inductees to serve as examples in the provision of quality pharmaceutical services for sustainable health care in Nigeria.
The guest speaker and the Managing Director, Tyonex Group of Companies, Abuja, Dr Tyohemba Agba, said the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Distribution in Nigeria played major role in Nigeria health care system.
He reminded the inductees to be aware of the challenges affecting the profession and to be prepared ahead in line with the ethics.
“Yes, there is the commercial aspect, but most importantly is the ethical aspect. The ethics of your practice supersedes whatever monetary value you can get in your life.
“You bring solutions, save humanity, you have the privilege of contributing to the growth of the country by creating employment, energy, research, among others “, Agba said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the induction ceremony featured awards presentation to outstanding students who excelled during their study years.
The best graduands with first class included, David Duru and Blessing Udeh, while over 13 graduands came out with ‘Second Class Upper degree.
Awards in different categories were presented to overall best students in different pharmaceutical courses in pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, microbiology and pharmacy project.
Others are medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology and Toxicology, clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice and project in pharmacognosy.
The two best graduating students Ude and Duru, on behalf of all the graduands, appreciated the University for giving them the opportunity and promised to be good ambassadors of the institution.
Mr Tony Agbakoba, a parent appreciated the institution and admonished the graduands to put in their best in the practice in Nigeria so as to give the younger generation hope to make it in Nigeria.
Mrs Olayinka Duru, who did not hide her excitement over her son (David) performance, advised the graduands to remain focused and put their trust in God.
