The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is anticipating the arrival of 51 new platforms to bolster counter-insurgency and counterterrorism efforts in the country.

These developments were disclosed during Air Vice Marshal Abubakar’s maiden operational tour of NAF units in Makurdi, Benue State.In an official statement issued by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the acquisition of these additional platforms would greatly enhance training, air power employment, and projection capabilities.

Among the expected platforms are two Agusta 109 Trekker Multi-role helicopters, two Beechcraft King Air 360 aircraft, three Diamond DA-62 surveillance aircraft, and six T-129 ATAK helicopters.

The list of pending acquisitions also includes two CASA -295 medium airlift/surveillance aircraft, 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters, and 24 M-346 attack aircraft.

These acquisitions serve as a testament to the Federal Government’s commitment to adequately equip the NAF, enabling them to effectively address the nation’s security challenges.”By investing in these platforms, we are demonstrating the government’s dedication to ensuring the NAF’s preparedness for training and agile airpower deployment,” Air Vice Marshal Abubakar asserted.

Furthermore, he emphasized the NAF’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and jointness with other branches of the military and security agencies as part of a comprehensive approach to swiftly resolve the country’s security challenges.

“While the NAF strengthens its airpower measures and approaches, it will continue to promote seamless interoperability of equipment and joint force employment among the various services,” Air Vice Marshal Abubakar stated.

Addressing the NAF personnel, he encouraged them to work collaboratively with other services and security agencies, fulfilling the high expectations of Nigerians on the Armed Forces. The primary goal remains to restore peace, security, and ensure a safe and prosperous nation.
