Kano State’s Commissioner of Education, Alh. Umar Haruna Doguwa, has called on directors of the Ministry of Education and its affiliated agencies to update their digital skills in order to enhance literacy and ensure more effective management of the education sector in the state.
Emphasizing the need to stay relevant in a fast-changing world, the Commissioner highlighted the importance of developing digital skills to make a difference in today’s IT age.
The Commissioner made this call during the opening of a workshop organized by Skyline University, a private university based in Kano, exclusively for the directors of the Ministry.
Recognizing the transformative power of digital literacy, he stressed that the managerial staff must not only embrace positive thinking but also actively adopt digital skills to improve overall service delivery.
“We are in an IT age and we cannot afford to be left behind. Things have changed considerably and for us to make a difference in today’s world, we must have digital skills,” Alh. Umar Doguwa stated.
Skyline University offered the training free of charge as part of its corporate social responsibility, a gesture which the Commissioner welcomed with delight.
He expressed hope that the university would continue to introduce more products and services that add value to the state.
The training, which focused on digital skills and leadership, is expected to have a positive impact on both the participants attending the workshop and the state’s education sector as a whole, the Commissioner optimistically remarked.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Ajith Kumar Vadakki Veetil, the Vice Chancellor of Skyline University Kano, encouraged a shift in mindset towards accepting digital skills.
As key players in the education sector, he emphasized the importance of remaining competitive in an increasingly information technology-driven world.
The workshop saw participation from directors of various educational bodies, including the Kano State Ministry of Education, Science and Technical Schools Board, Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, Private and Voluntary Schools Board, and Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, among others.
The training session aimed to equip the education managers with the necessary tools to adapt to the evolving landscape of education, leveraging digital advancements to drive transformation and progress in the state’s educational system.
