Kada Stars of Kaduna defeated stallions of Lagos State  hockey team 3-0 in the quarter final  match at the ongoing 2023 Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) Super League in Abuja on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the male category match was played at the hockey Astro turf of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The victory will now set up a semi final match between Kada Stars and Delta Force which also defeated IGP Flickers 2-.

Kada stars played four matches and won four with 12 points so  while stallions played five matches won two , drew one and lost two with seven points.

Kada stars who dominated the game from the beginning of the match to the end, opened scoring through James Samalia  in the 15th minute  through a penalty corner .

Samaila doubled the tally through a penalty corner in the 29th minute from  a cross John Michael and  Benjamin Ibrahim.

Samaila made it three in the 50th minute through a penalty corner in spite efforts by stallions to score.

In another match, Delta Force beat IGP Flickers 2-1 to advance to the semi final.

Speaking after the match, team Manager of Stallions, Babatunde Odetokun , said that the players young and  are trying to acquire experience.

“Our players were up and doing well, I appreciate their performance. I am impressed with their performance in spite inadequate preparation  before coming  the tournament.

“In 2022 super league, we came fifth position. We hope to go beyond this stage  in 2024 edition of  the  league ,” he said.

NAN reports that a total of 20 teams are participating in the Super League, with nine of them in the women’s category and 11 in the men’s category.

The competition which began on Saturday is expected to end on Saturday. (NAN)
