It appears that a fierce political showdown is on the horizon in Kaduna State, as Bashir El-Rufai has called out Governor Uba Sani for consistently avoiding his duties by residing in Abuja instead of being present in the state.

Bashir, the son of the former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, has raised concerns about Governor Sani’s choice of aides, suggesting that they may have been appointed based on political favours rather than competence.

Bashir criticised the Uba Sani administration for avoiding responsibility and shifting blame by raising concerns about the debt burden left by Governor El-Rufai’s administration.

According to a report by LEADERSHIP, Governor Sani recently addressed a Town Hall Meeting in Kaduna where he discussed the financial challenges he faced upon taking office. He mentioned that he inherited a significant debt burden and numerous contractual liabilities from the previous administration, which has made it challenging for him to meet the payment of workers’ salaries.

However, in what seems to be a direct response to the Kaduna State government’s claim, Bashir El-Rufai took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) to express his strong disapproval of Governor Sani and his team. He criticised them for their alleged incompetence, contract inflation, and Forex speculation, questioning why they were using the debt burden as an excuse for their underwhelming performance.

The younger El-Rufai wrote: “These guys have realised that they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect. From a Governor that is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides that were only rewarded for foolish political reasons.”

As a reminder, Governor Sani previously served as the Kaduna Central Senator in the 9th Senate before being elected as the state governor in the 2023 elections.

Bashir further tweeted, “One would think that from all the FAAC allocations these unserious clowns have changed to dollars, debt would be the least of their problems.

“The current administration in Kaduna is building a banquet hall for 7BN naira and is lamenting about debt left by the previous administration.”
