The 1 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army won the 2024 inter-brigade combat proficiency competition in Kano on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the proficiency competition is for personnel from the ranks of corporal and below.

The participants are drawn from 1 Division Garrison, Kaduna, 31 Artilary Brigade, Minna in Niger and the host, 3 Brigade, Kano.

The participants competed for honours in drills, weapons handling, map reading, obstacle crossings, combat swimming and 10 km race.

31 Artilary Brigade, Minna in Niger came second while the host, 3 Brigade, Kano trailed behind.

In his address at the closing of the competition, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso commended the participants’ competence, endurance and team spirit.

The GOC, represented by Commander, 3 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Musa Sadiq, congratulated the winners of the competition and tasked all personnel on dedication, hard work and physical fitness towards readiness for any assigned task.

According to him, the Nigerian Army continues to forge ahead, adding that training remained the best welfare to the personnel.

“The conduct of this competition is a reaffirmation of the premium 1 Division places on effective training.

“The Division will continue to implement its training schedules in line with Army Head Huarters training directives.

“Accordingly, new skills will continue to be acquired, areas of observed weaknesses will be straightened and our strength will be consolidated,” he said.

He then thanked the Chief of Army Staff for making available the resources for the training and for several other interventions to support the division.

Earlier, the Commander, 3 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Musa Sadiq, noted that the competition aimed at testing the team spirit, combat readiness of the officers and prepare them for the upcoming tasks.

He noted that the aims and objectives of the four-day competition had been achieved.

The commander then commended the participants and implored them to be more productive in their given tasks.

Sadik appreciated the team of umpires as well as heads of other security agencies that witnessed the competition.

The Garrison Commander, one division, Kaduna, Brig-Gen. Muhammad Kana, said that the training was designed to sharpen the participants’ battle skills.

He commended the participants for their hard work and urged them to do more in the next competition. (NAN)
