The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reaffirmed the suspension of Governor Abbah Yusuf of Kano State until December. This was disclosed in a statement by the Party’s National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi Sunday, in Abuja.

The statement announced that the NNPP will hold a strategic stakeholders meeting in Abuja later this month to address internal matters, with all party leaders and elders expected to attend.

Critical issues, including the expulsion of the party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and the entire national working committee led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, will be discussed.

Sunday emphasized the importance of the meeting for the party’s advancement ahead of the 2027 general elections. “The personal commitment of all stakeholders and elders in terms of capacity and participation shall be of great advantage to the success of the meeting,” he stated.

He also mandated that, “All members, most especially those holding very sensitive positions of great responsibilities are compulsorily mandated to attend this coming meeting.” He warned elected members on the NNPP platform about the “consequences of anti-party activities” if they boycott the meeting.

Sunday reiterated that Kwankwaso, Galadima, and the former National Working Committee members remain expelled, and Governor Abba Yusuf remains suspended. “For the record, Kwankwaso, Galadima, and the entire members of the Former National Working Committee led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji remain expelled from the NNPP. Also, the Governor of Kano State, Abbah Yusuf, remains suspended till December,” he asserted.

He stressed that the NNPP’s constitution is supreme and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect internal democracy. “It is our hope that INEC would take responsibility to respect the essence of internal democracy and inherent objectives for growth and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria,” he added.

The stakeholders’ meeting is seen as crucial for addressing the pressing internal matters affecting the 23-year-old political party and reinforcing its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
