Manchester City has officially signed 20-year-old Brazilian winger Savinho from French club Troyes in a deal worth €40 million (£30.8 million).

Savinho made a significant impact last season while on loan at Girona, where he played a crucial role in their third-place finish in La Liga. Both Girona and Troyes are part of the City Football Group, which facilitated his transfer to Manchester City.

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the reigning Premier League champions, Savinho stated, “City are currently the best team in the world, and I am thrilled to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches ever.”

He further shared his immediate impression upon arrival, saying, “Because of everything I’ve seen today. I just got here this morning and I turned to my agent and stepfather and said, ‘there was no way I was going to turn down Manchester City.’”

Describing his playing style, Savinho said, “I’m a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot, to be happy, to play joyful football. I like playing one against one, making assists, scoring goals too, and helping the team. My main characteristic, what I like the most, is being happy and getting fans up off their seats.”

Savinho, also known as Savio, began his career at Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro before transferring to Troyes in the summer of 2022. Although he did not play in a competitive match for the Ligue 2 club, he spent the 2022–23 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he made eight appearances for the Dutch side.

His breakthrough came during his loan spell at Girona last season, where he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions. This impressive performance earned him his first senior call-up for Brazil in March, leading to his debut against England and his first international goal against Paraguay in the Copa America group stage.

Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, expressed confidence in Savinho’s potential, saying, “He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond. We are totally confident in his ability. He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop even further. But he has already shown his huge quality and technical ability and is an exciting addition to our attacking area.”
