Muhammad affirmed the commissionโ€™s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections across the state’s 27 local government areas. He recalled that the local council elections had been postponed from June 2024 to June 2025 due to amendments in the state electoral law.

โ€œHowever, itโ€™s my belief that you are aware of the recent Supreme Court judgement directing all state governments to put in place democratically elected local government councils in their respective states, with immediate effect,โ€ Muhammad stated.

In response to the Supreme Court’s directive, JISIEC decided to revert to its original schedule and requested a re-amendment of the state electoral law to align with the judgement. Consequently, the new date for the local government elections has been set for Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Muhammad called on security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, political parties, organizations, womenโ€™s groups, youth leaders, the media, and community groups to support the commission in achieving the goal of a successful election.

Reiterating the commissionโ€™s dedication to conducting credible elections, Muhammad expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their continuous support in ensuring the elections are free and fair.
