Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, has reported that some relief materials intended for impoverished households in Kano State have been misappropriated.

Jibrin, who represents Kano North and chairs a presidential committee on distributing relief items, made this disclosure following a committee meeting on Thursday.

The committee, which includes members from the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigerian Peopleโ€™s Party (NNPP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and traditional rulers, was established to ensure fair distribution of aid in the north-western state.

โ€œWe just held a meeting in respect of a committee set up by Mr. President on how to distribute palliatives to the needy in respect of the Kano people,โ€ Jibrin stated. He emphasized President Bola Tinubuโ€™s commitment to equitable distribution of the materials.

Jibrin explained that the president’s concern over the improper distribution led to the formation of the committee to oversee the process. โ€œHe has given a lot of palliatives, but they are not being distributed evenly; they have not gone to those at the grassroots who should have them,โ€ Jibrin said.

The senator outlined the distribution plan, noting that beneficiaries will be identified through valid identification documents such as national identity cards, driverโ€™s licenses, voterโ€™s cards, or international passports. Each confirmed beneficiary will receive a 25kg bag of rice.
