Just a day after the management of Kano University of Science and Technology apprehended about 17 male students over the harassment of their female counterparts who wore the free-flowing Arabian dress known as Abaya, ladies have taken to social media to campaign against harassment.
The ladies who took various pictures and posted them on social media celebrate with the hashtag #abayaday.
@Realoilsheikh on twitter posted “I love Abaya. It is more than a million and one clothings Muslim women wear today. In solidarity, I promise to buy more Abayas for her excellency. So help me God.”

A male user on Twitter in solidarity with the ladies and also in celebration of #abayaday said “if I had an Abaya and it’s permissible, I’d have worn one in solidarity with our sisters today. Perverted people don’t and shouldn’t have a place in our society under any guise.”

@Aisha Ilyas on Instagram posted “bullying is never fun, it’s a cruel and terrible thing to do to someone. If you are being bullied, it is not your fault. No one deserves to be bullied ever. Bullies are always cowards at heart and may be credited with a pretty safe instinct in scenting their prey. #saynotoharassment #saynotobullying #abayaday #kustwudilabayaday #begrateful #bepositive #rockyourabayawithpride.”
