A notorious thug, Abba Burakita has been apprehended by courageous residents while leading gang members in a raid to snatch women’s mobile phones and motorcycles of hapless riders.

Daily News 24 reports that Mr Burakita, who is a vicious criminal gang leader terrorizing Dorayi area of Kano city, was caught on Friday along race course road close to the Kano Government House.

It was learnt that Mr Burakita and his gang members waylaid women and seized their mobile phones while also stealing motorcycles from other residents.

It was gathered that the hoodlums used the opportunity of a Polo tournament that was held at the race course to perpetrate the crime.

Witnesses said some brave residents decided to confront the thugs and overpower them, inflicting fractures on Mr Burakita’s legs.

The hoodlum was subsequently arrested by police who were immediately called to the scene.

In a post on his Facebook page, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa appeared to confirm Mr Burakita’s arrest.

“Peace be Upon You all, we have succeeded in making a major arrest in Dorayi and a notorious thug has been caught.

“We are grateful for the assistance we are receiving from the public,” Mr Kiyawa wrote in Hausa without mention Mr Burakita by name.

Recall that several months ago, during the tenure of former Kano Police Commissioner CP Usaini Gumel, Mr Burakita had led 40 members of his gang to a dialogue with the police command.

The thug had then promised to end his criminal activities in exchange for a pardon that would see him contribute to peace in his volatile Dorayi community.

However, after the dialogue, Mr Burakita returned to his criminal life, which has led to deadly gang brawls in the community, causing loss of lives and property.
