A Nigerian lady has come out to claim responsibility for hacking the Facebook page of the Kano State Hisbah Board.

Daily News 24 reports that the about four days ago, the Commandant-General (CG) of the Hisbah Board Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daura had raised alarm over the hack and pleaded with members of the public to assist in recovering the account.

Sheikh Daurawa also stated that the board has written to Meta, owners of the Facebook platform to help in recovering the page.

Sani Zailani, Head of ICT at theย Hisbahย Board, noted that the account has experienced previous hacks and that Meta has been contacted regarding the latest breach.

He said Meta has pledged to resolve the issue within 48 hours.

Since the account, which has 82,000 followers was taken, the people in control of the page have been consistently posting explicit and nude pictures of women.

But 72 hours following the hack, a female Facebook user, with the name Mariam Oyiza Aliyu claimed to have seized the account.

Ms Oyiza, who is followed by 13,000 users, identifies herself as “human rights defender, ex-Muslim, radiographer-humanitarian, humanist, feminist” on her profile.

Her profile shows she’s a native of Okene in Kogi state, even though she claims to currently live in Leeuwarden, Friesland in the Netherlands.

According to Ms Oyiza, she took control of Hisbah’s Facebook account in retaliation for the board’s alleged “verbal abuse” of women.

“Good morning people, I bring to you good tidyings (sic) of great joy, Hisbah Board Kano, a revered and holy morality police decided to click on an adult movie link shared by hackers a few days ago. Well, the hypocrites have been exposed. Nakis everywhere!!,” she wrote.

Ms Oyiza warned in a subsequent post that she could only release Hisbah board’s account if they apologise to “all women they verbally abused”.

“For me to release Kano Hisbah Board account, they must apologise to all women they have verbally abused and pay them the sum of N500k each. Else,” she said in the post accompanied with laughing emojis.

Daily News 24 could not independently verify Ms Oyiza’s claims.

When contacted however, Mr Zailani said he was unaware of Ms Oyiza’s claims but promised to investigate.

“We have not seen the post by this woman, but we would look into it and take the necessary action,” he said.
