The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) is preparing to transition to a fully digitalized, paperless system, a move expected to significantly improve patient care and service delivery.

Daily News 24 reports that the Overseeing Chief Medical Director, Prof. Auwalu Umar Gajida, highlighted the importance of this transformation during a visit by Galaxy Backbone, a unit within the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.

โ€œThe adaptation of an electronic system in our hospital will not only enhance the quality of service we provide but also ensure that patient records are preserved for longer periods,โ€ Prof. Gajida stated.

He further noted that the collaboration with Galaxy Backbone would help address existing network challenges, enabling faster and more efficient service delivery across the hospital.

Engr. Abubakar Usman, Head of the Public Business Unit at Galaxy Backbone, remarked, โ€œThe Diablo IV data center in Kano, the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa, will significantly benefit AKTH, making it one of the key beneficiaries of this federal project.โ€

In a related event, Prof. Gajida called on affluent individuals to emulate donors who have funded facilities at AKTH.

During the commissioning of the Hajiya Rukayya Hassan Geriatric Ward, a newly donated facility for elderly care, he emphasized, โ€œThe donation of this facility by Alhaji Muhammad Hassan is a shining example of how individual philanthropy can directly benefit the community. This geriatric ward will play a vital role in delivering top-notch care to our elderly population.โ€

Speaking on behalf of the donor, Alhaji Nura Hassan said, โ€œWe wanted to honor our mother’s memory by contributing to a cause that would serve the people of Kano and beyond.โ€

Prof. Ibrahim D. Gezawa, the project lead and a consultant endocrinologist, expressed the hospitalโ€™s readiness to operate the new ward, stating, โ€œThe kindness shown by the Hassan family will not only provide comfort to many but also stands as an inspiration for others to give back to their communities.โ€
