Ali Jita, a prominent Hausa musician and one of the staunch supporters of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daily News 24 reports that Mr Jita defected from Governor Yusuf’s party, the NNPP on Thursday, a move that signifies his withdrawal of support for the Kano state governor.

The musician was received into the APC by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kano North Senatorial District.

Receiving the singer, the Deputy President of the Senate, described his joining of the APC as a welcome development.

“As a young and talented artist, Ali Jita will bring his experience and expertise to the party, which will pave the way for the development of the music and the entire Kennywood industry. I welcome you to the largest party. You are welcome on board,” he said.

Speaking, Ali Jita, who is also the Chairman of the the Kano Singers Association known as Murya Daya, described Senator Barau as a father figure.

“I want to assure you that I will use all my ability and talent to contribute to this journey. This is my house now and APC is my party. We will work for it success going forward,” he said.

Recently, members of the NNPP, who are also supporters of the Kwankwassiya movement have been moving into Mr Barau’s camp in droves, alleging that they have not been rewarded for their loyalty.
