The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party has announced that Peter Obi is no longer the exclusive presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Daily News 24 reports that this development effectively allows other contenders within the party to vie for the position.
This decision was reached during a pivotal meeting held at the partyโs National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday.

The NEC stated that while Obi, who was the partyโs presidential candidate in the 2023 election, remains eligible to contest, the presidential ticket is now open to other interested party members.
Additionally, the Abia State Governorship ticket, which was previously reserved for Alex Otti, is now available to other potential candidates.
This shift follows a Labour Party Stakeholders meeting led by Governor Otti and Obi in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
