Renowned lawyer and activist, Dr Audu Bulama Bukarti has joined forces with famous Hausa musician Naziru Ahmad (aka Sarkin Waka) and eight others to form a youth organization, “The Movement: Tafiyar Matasa”, aimed at rescuing Nigeria from bad leadership.
Daily News 24 reports that Dr Bukarti, the convener of the group, officially unveiled the faces behind the new movement on Wednesday during a zoom meeting that was also monitored on Facebook.
The other founding members of the Tafiyar Matasa include human rights lawyer, Abba Hikima, Sharfaddeen Bature, Hajiya Ummulkhairi Getso, an activist, Amb Mevon Samuel, Jude A Daniel, also lawyer and tax consultant, Dr Peter Bright A, businessman, Fatima Salihu Aliyu, activist and Auwal Abubakar Genge, an energy expert.
In his keynote remarks Dr Bukarti said the formation of the group was necessary to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of bad leadership that destroyed virtually every fabric of society.
“Corruption has replaced development, selfish interest has replaced the zeal for public service. Many Nigerians have lost hope of any redemption in this country. But we are not here to lament, we are here to change this reality,” Dr Bukarti told the thousands of social media users that had joined the discussion.

“We tried to protest, the politicians sent hoodlums who turned the protest violent, our religious clerics and traditional rulers have admonished our leaders, but we don’t think they have taken the advice since the cost of petrol continued to rise,” he added.
“This is why we decided that since all our efforts have failed, our only solution is to come together and form a movement to take away power from these bad leaders. And even though is is a youth-based group, every Nigerian is welcome to join in order to succeed”.
Dr Bukarti explained that the 10 conveners of Tafiyar Matasa have been chosen to lead the formation of the group and register it.
“It is not yet a political movement, our job as the pioneer leaders of the group is to coordinate efforts to register it legally and then introduce it to Nigerians. But eventually, the leaders would be selected from the national level down to ward levels,” he said.
It was observed that already an online portal has been opened for interested members of the public to join the group.
But an initial glitch was experienced by people who tried to fill the Google form, forcing the organizers to suspend the registration exercise until the problem was addressed.
