Following the recent flood disaster in Borno State, which raised concerns about dam safety across the country, the Kano State Government has conducted a critical inspection of the Tiga Dam to ensure it remains secure.

Daily News 24 reports that the inspection team, led by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, and the Commissioner for Works, visited the dam alongside experts from their respective ministries.

Speaking to journalists during the visit, Ali Makoda highlighted the significance of the inspection. โ€œWe came with some experts from the Ministry of Water Resources and also Works and Housing to assess the situation. While the Tiga Dam is managed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, our role today was to inspect and ensure everything is in good condition,โ€ he said.

Makoda referenced the recent situation at the Alo Dam, which has prompted widespread concern. โ€œWhat happened at the Alo Dam sent a very negative signal to Nigerians. That is why His Excellency directed us to be here today,โ€ he explained.

Reassuring the public, Makoda stated that the experts had reviewed the damโ€™s current condition and found no cause for alarm. โ€œWe have listened to the experts, and all indications show that the dam is intact. There is nothing to worry about,โ€ he confirmed.

The inspection is part of the state governmentโ€™s proactive measures to prevent any potential flooding disasters as the rainy season intensifies. The team is expected to continue their assessment at other key dams in the state, including Bagwai and Challawa.
