The Nigerian Army has donated a four-block classroom structure to the Datti Ahmad Government Secondary School in Wurure, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Along with this, the army rehabilitated an office block and provided 216 classroom furniture as part of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Programme.

Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja, COAS, highlighted the importance of the gesture during the formal handover ceremony of the remodeled classrooms in Kano on Saturday. Lagbaja, who was represented by Major-General Nosakhare Ugbo, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, said the project aimed to enhance civil-military relations and improve access to quality education in the region.

“The gesture will further improve the academic atmosphere and promote better learning,” Lagbaja stated, adding that the initiative was designed to reduce insecurity and boost the morale of Nigerian Army personnel within their communities. He explained that the project was intended to support communities with serving senior officers, particularly those who have risen to the rank of Major General through dedication to national service.

Lagbaja also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his trust in the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, pledging continued loyalty to the president.

The projectโ€™s facilitator, Major-General Sani Bashir, emphasized that the choice of Datti Ahmad Secondary School for the intervention was based on the pressing need for a conducive learning environment.

โ€œIt is hoped that the infrastructure provided in my community will serve as an impetus for the teachers and stimulate interest among students to develop their intellectual capacity for national development,โ€ Bashir, who is also the Chief of Defense Communication, said. He further stressed that the intervention was part of the Nigerian Armyโ€™s Corporate Social Responsibility to support Kano Stateโ€™s efforts in advancing education.

Brigadier-General Teminere Mackintosh, commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, also commended the COAS for funding the project and giving back to the community.
