Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Sokoto State government will today (Wednesday) commence the sale of special foodstuffs aimed at easing the burden of economic hardship on its citizens.

The government, on Monday, announced that the foodstuffs, including rice and other essential items, would be sold at a 55% discount to assist the people.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, Abubakar Bawa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, said the governor would launch the initiative at the Government House on Wednesday.

โ€œThe foodstuffs will be launched tomorrow here at the Government House, and I can tell you that immediately after the launch, the foodstuffs will be available in all the designated areas,โ€ Bawa stated.

He further emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that the initiative reaches the grassroots. โ€œThe governor, as part of his aim to ensure it gets to the needy at the grassroots level, has decided to make it available at all the 242 political wards in the state. A certain number of bags has been allocated to each of the wards, and it is expected that the project will be sustained till things improve in the state,โ€ he added.

Abdullahi Dattijo, the chairman of the committee overseeing the sales, assured the public that the process would be fair and free from political interference.

โ€œAll the committee members are men of integrity, including those at the local government levels. We will ensure transparency in the sales, God willing,โ€ Dattijo said.
