The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully secured several drug-related convictions within a single day.
This development was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano State Command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.

Maigatari stated that the convictions highlight the agency’s commitment to enforcing the rule of law and maintaining a strict zero-tolerance policy on drug offences. “The Agency secured multiple convictions in one day, underscoring our resolve to maintain law and order and rid society of drug traffickers,” he said.
One of the key convictions was that of 25-year-old Ibrahim Tahir, who was found guilty on three separate drug charges. He was sentenced to three years for each charge, to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of nine years in prison.
Another case involved James Temitope Ajayi, a 40-year-old ex-convict and known distributor of Cannabis Sativa, who received a seven-year sentence for drug trafficking. Maigatari noted that Ajayi’s conviction was particularly important given his involvement in cross-regional drug trafficking.
“These convictions are part of our consistent efforts to disrupt major supply chains and safeguard communities from the devastating impact of drug abuse,” Maigatari added.
Two other individuals, Adekunle Sunday Adebayo, 40, and Yahaya Mamuda, 35, were also sentenced to six years each for their involvement in drug-related crimes. None of the convicted offenders were given the option of a fine, a decision the court made to send a clear message about the severity of drug-related offences.
Maigatari emphasized the significance of swift justice in these cases, remarking, “By holding offenders accountable for their actions, Justice Shuaibu is contributing to a safer, more just society.”
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. CN AI Ahmad, praised the support of the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), for his role in facilitating these successes. Ahmad also commended the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his efforts in the fight against drug abuse in the state.
Ahmad further acknowledged the contributions of Justice Shuaibu and the NDLEA’s prosecution and legal services unit in securing the convictions, reiterating the agency’s dedication to a drug-free society.
