The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, has called on parents and community leaders to guide Kanoโ€™s youth and discourage their involvement in violence during the local government council elections on Saturday.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, ahead of the election covering all 44 local government areas in Kano State, Emir Sanusi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security.

โ€œTo my people in Kano State, as you are aware, by Allahโ€™s will, tomorrow there will be local government council elections,โ€ he said. โ€œAll those who love Kano, I am sure, will agree with me that nothing is more important than preserving the peace and security of our state.โ€

The Emir expressed concern over external influences that may provoke unrest, explaining, โ€œThose who seek to create mayhem and violence are enemies of the state. Many of them are instigated from outside, but when they do this, it is our children who are killed, our wealth that is destroyed, and our establishments that are damaged.โ€ Reflecting on past incidents, he recalled, โ€œWe recall what happened some months ago, when miscreants were brought in to cause damage that would cost millions to repair, in addition to the lives lost forever.โ€

He urged parents, ward heads, imams, and other community leaders to take responsibility for preventing violence. โ€œI am addressing the people of Kano and urging all of youโ€”parents, ward heads, village heads, imams, and district headsโ€”to call the youth to order and ensure they are not used by the stateโ€™s enemies to create violence, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property,โ€ the Emir advised.

Concluding his appeal with prayers, he said, โ€œWe pray to Allah that the election will be held peacefully and that Allah guides our leaders to do what is right for the people, continually improving their standard of living. May Allah protect our state, turn away evil from us, and reward those who wish us well. May He grant us continued peace, security, and stability.โ€
