A Shariah Court in Kano State, sitting at Kofar Kudu, has ordered the remand of Nasiru Mukhtar, who is accused of assaulting Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman during morning prayers at a mosque in Tudunwada.

The alleged incident took place on October 22, 2024, around 5 a.m., when Mukhtar reportedly entered the mosque, held the imam by the neck, slapped him, tore his clothing, and seized his microphone.

In response to the attack, the imam reported the matter to the state police command, which led to Mukhtar’s arrest.

During the court proceedings, Mukhtarโ€™s defense counsel appealed for bail, suggesting that additional investigation was necessary. However, the presiding judge, Malam Isah Rabiโ€™u Gaya, declined the request and instead ordered a psychiatric assessment to determine Mukhtarโ€™s mental health.

The case has been adjourned until November 22, 2024, with the accused remaining in custody until further notice.
