A Kano State High Court has issued a restraining order against the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to prevent them from withholding funds allocated to the 44 local governments in Kano State.

This decision comes after a motion ex-parte filed on November 1 by the Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ibrahim Muhammed, alongside five other concerned residents.

The applicants, represented by their legal counsel, Bashir Yusuf-Muhammad and Usman Bala-Salisu, argued that any delay or withholding of these funds could hinder essential governance functions at the local level. The other residents involved in the filing include Ibrahim Shehu, Ibrahim Abubakar, Usman Isa, Sarki Kurawa, and Malam Usman Imam.

In his ruling, Justice Ibrahim Musa-Muhammad issued an interim injunction, barring the AGF, CBN, RMAFC, as well as several commercial banksโ€”including UBA and Access Bankโ€”from interfering with the applicantsโ€™ rights regarding the allocations.

The judgeโ€™s order restrains these entities, listed as the 45th to 54th respondents, from taking any actions through their agents, officers, or representatives that would disrupt the flow of funds necessary for local government operations in Kano State.
