Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has warned his supporters against falling into what he described as “traps” set by those seeking to destabilize Kano.

The Emir made the statement on Friday during a sermon at the Emirate’s Jumu’at Mosque, hours after police operatives barricaded his palace and prevented him from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.

“I warn you against falling into the traps of the enemies of Kano, who want to see Kano on fire. They always want to witness killings, destruction of public property, and the maiming of innocent lives,” Sanusi said.

The Emir emphasized patience and peaceful coexistence, urging his supporters to remain calm despite provocation.

“Islam admonishes patience, whether in difficult situations or times of peace. If you are attacked, patience elevates you. Refusing to be patient creates uncertainty and difficulties, leading to losses for everyone,” he added.

The statement came after heavily armed police officers surrounded the Kano Emir’s Palace and restricted movement, reportedly on “orders from above.” The blockade prevented a planned event to turban Munir Sanusi as Wamban Kano and District Head of Bichi.

Traditional rulers, who had assembled to accompany the Emir, were stranded, with many abandoning their vehicles to proceed to Friday prayers on foot.
