The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a budget of N719,755,417,663.

Titled the Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development, the financial plan prioritizes education, healthcare, infrastructure, water and rural development, security, poverty reduction, agriculture, and economic growth.

The budget allocates N262.67 billion, or 36%, for recurrent expenditure, while N457.08 billion, representing 64%, is earmarked for capital projects.

Governor Abba Yusuf had initially presented a proposed budget of N549.16 billion to the Assembly, but the approved version reflects an increase of over N170 billion.

In a statement signed by the Speaker’s spokesman, Kamaluddeen Shawai, it was revealed that N75.71 billion is expected to be generated internally, constituting 13.8% of the budget, while the remaining 86% will come from the Federation Account and capital receipts.

“The total expected receipts for the year 2025 are estimated at N549.16 billion. Of this, N75.71 billion will come from IGR, while the rest will be sourced from the Federation Accounts and capital receipts,” the statement read.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore commended lawmakers for their dedication during deliberations.

“I thank my distinguished colleagues for their patience and endurance during the debate. This budget represents a crucial step in advancing the developmental goals of Kano State,” Falgore stated.
