The Okoya brothers recently gained public attention after a viral video allegedly showed them mishandling the Nigerian currency. In the same clip, a police officer was also seen, prompting swift action from the Nigeria Police Force, which has since detained the officer.
The delay in the arrest of the brothers has sparked widespread criticism on social media. Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju expressed his frustration in a Facebook post on Saturday, stating, “The Okoya sons are above the law. A country of two laws — one for the poor and the other for the rich.”
According to sources, the EFCC has invited the brothers to appear before the head of its Special Operations team at the Lagos office located on 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The invitation, signed by Michael Wetkas, acting director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, indicates that the anti-graft agency is taking the matter seriously as public outrage continues to mount.
