Adamawa government has directed the 21 council chairmen of the state to hand over affairs of the councils to heads of service as their tenure expired on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
Recall that the outgoing council chairmen and their councillors were sworn into office on 9th December 2019 after emerging winners in the council polls.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri while also commending them for identifying with the culture of good governance exemplified by his administration where adequate attention is being paid to the needs of the People at the grassroots, applauded them for strengthening democracy in the State.
In a statement issued by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Press Secretary to the governor, Fintiri described as astounding the performance of the chairmen saying, they will forever be remembered as part of the success story of his administration.
“Your service to the people and the State is commendable. PDP and my humble self are proud of you. You’ll go down in history as part of the success story of our social re-engineering process in Adamawa especially our rural and urban renewal drive”.
“You are therefore directed to hand over to the Heads of Service in your respective councils who will take charge of administration pending the appointment of caretaker Committees”.
The two year statutory tenure of all Local Government Chairmen, Councillors, and appointed Secretaries and others in the State expired on Wednesday December 8th 2021.
The statement added that “it is expected that newly elected officials will resume office after the next elections to be scheduled and conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission.
“Consequently, all affected officials are legally required to vacate their offices by the close of business on Wednesday December 8th”.
Fintiri noted that after quality representation, “You are eminently qualified to return to the people and seek re-election.
He noted that local government is not only the closest to the people, but possesses the capacity to be more impactful in fulfilling the wishes and aspirations of the people at the grassroots.
He assured that his administration will continue to give priority to staff salaries and welfare as well as projects execution across the state.
He therefore challenged the Heads of Service to be upright in their dealings as career Civil Servants.
