The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has apologised for his previous statement suggesting that Christians who fail to pay tithe might not make it to heaven.

In a video circulating online, Adeboye addressed the issue on Thursday night during a session at the RCCG’s ongoing Youth Convention at Redemption Camp. He acknowledged that his earlier comment about tithing was a “mistake” and clarified that the Bible focuses on living a peaceful and holy life as the criteria for entering heaven.
“I apologise for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,’” he told the congregation.
Adeboye further explained that it is possible to be right and wrong simultaneously. Drawing from his background as a scientist, he said, “For years we thought light travels straight… later on, we discovered light travels in waves. It is wrong to limit you to 10 per cent when someone is talking of 20, 30, 40 per cent. 10 per cent should be for beginners. I believe God will give me an opportunity very soon to give you the details.”
His apology has generated widespread discussion, with many noting the importance of clear biblical teachings on tithing and salvation.
