The Adamawa Government has tasked women in the state on tree planting in order to curb the menace of climate change.
Mrs Saso Ali, the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, made the appeal at the closing ceremony of the 2022 International Women’s Month on Friday in Yola.
She called on women to plant trees as part of efforts to curb the challenges of climate change in the society.

She said that it was high time that women stopped the use of firewood for their wellbeing.
“The use of firewood is dangerous to our health, when we use firewood, the smoke affects the lungs which causes risks to human health.
“Women should find an alternative for cooking and they should contribute their quota to tackling climate change by planting trees,” she said.
According to her, the ministry is committed to tackling the challenges of climate change and other disturbing menace in the society.
Ali appealed to women in the state to support women’s participation in politics to enhance the livelihoods of women and children for a better tomorrow.
She said that all hands must be on deck to curb climate change which has become a menace in the society and which should be addressed for the betterment of the society.
The permanent secretary said that the ministry had done a lot in the fight against rape in the state, adding that they had been mounting pressure on the Police and the Judiciary for speedy prosecution of perpetrators.
“We cannot take the law into our hands, but it is our responsibility to mount pressure on the relevant authorities to ensure the perpetrators are punished,“ she said.
Hajiya Aishatu Yakubu, the Founder of Goggiji Women Development, called on women to ensure they contribute their quota in nation building.
She said that Adamawa women were supposed to work towards becoming assets in their respective homes and communities. (NAN)
