Ahead of its March 2022 ceremony. the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science have released a pre-nominee shortlist for the 94th Oscars.
Surprisingly, the most globally coveted award category- Best International Feature which joins the shortlist, spots no African countries, a first in a number of years since the global category launched.
Recall that Nigeria withdrew from the IFF race this year after the Nigerian committee announced that no submission met the Academy’s criteria. Last year, the committee submitted Desmond Obviagele’s ‘The Milkmaid’. However, the feature film did not make the category’s shortlist.
