The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has reconnected power to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, following a payment of N100 million.
This development was confirmed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Yakasai, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
Prof. Yakasai stated that power supply was restored to the institution at approximately 4 pm after the payment was made.

The university had been without electricity due to a disconnection by KEDCO over a N248 million debt. This action was taken despite the university’s payment of N20 million out of its N60 million monthly bill.
The Vice Chancellor credited the prompt intervention of the Kano State Government and the Dangote Foundation for the restoration of power. “The Kano State Government and the Dangote Foundation facilitated the initial payment of N100 million to KEDCO,” he said.
The state government has also committed to settling the university’s outstanding liabilities. In addition, the Dangote Foundation is exploring sustainable energy solutions, such as solar mini-grids, to prevent future disruptions.
The university management expressed gratitude to all parties involved in resolving the issue and urged the community to support the judicious use of electricity to avoid similar problems in the future.
