The Kano Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested the Director of Quality Assurance of the Kano Consumer Protection Council, Mr Bello Alkarya, popularly known as Nigeria, for allegedly receiving bribes.
The Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Mahmud Balarabe, said that Alkarya has been detained after he was caught in the act.
He said, “We have an officer of the State Consumer Protection Council arrested red-handed, and we are investigating the matter because for now I personally don’t have details about his arrest but he is in our cell”.

In the last few months, another director of the council was said to have been arrested after being accused of also collecting bribes.
Similarly, the Department of State Services (DSS) had last week detained General Idris Bello Dambazau, Chairman, Kano Consumer Protection Council, for alleged economic sabotage.
Consumer Protection Council’s credibility hit an all-time low following the deployment of its former boss, Baffa Baba Dan’Agundi, as the seizure of illicit drugs and food products seized.
During the reign of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) boss, Dan’Agundi as the acting Chairman of the protection council, over N15 billion illicit drugs and other contrabands were seized and destroyed.
However, such euphoria of seizures has since become history at the council, while allegations of corruption and bribery have become the order of the day.
