The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to urgently investigate the Kano State government for allegedly sponsoring recent violent protests in the state.
The APC claims that these protests, which escalated into chaos and bloodshed, were orchestrated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration with the intention of undermining President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Mr. Edwin Olofu, Chief Press Secretary to the APC National Chairman, the party expressed deep concern over what it described as a “reckless and irresponsible” act by the Kano State government.
Mr. Olofu revealed that credible intelligence reports indicate the state government directly funded the protests, which were initially presented as a spontaneous outburst by dissatisfied citizens.
“It is alarming that a sitting governor would incite such chaos and violence within his state, putting the lives and properties of innocent citizens at risk,” the statement read.
The APC emphasized that this alleged action was not only a direct threat to the peace and security of Kano but also a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of the Tinubu-led administration.
The party urged the Federal Government to deploy relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the Kano State government’s role in the protests.
“We demand that the Federal Government immediately launches a comprehensive investigation. The sponsors of this violence must be brought to justice to prevent this from setting a dangerous precedent for other states,” the statement continued.
The APC also addressed the Kano State government’s claims that protesters looted sensitive documents related to the ongoing corruption trial of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Mr. Olofu dismissed these allegations as baseless and absurd, questioning the plausibility of such an event in the digital age.
“It is laughable that governance has been reduced to a huge joke in Kano state. The notion that demonstrators could break into a court, carefully select documents related to the trial, and then abscond with them is beyond belief. This is nothing more than a desperate attempt by Governor Yusuf’s administration to divert attention from their own culpability in the violence,” Mr. Olofu stated.
The APC further criticized the Kano State government’s handling of security and legal matters, describing the allegations as a reflection of the state’s growing incompetence. The statement also referenced Governor Yusuf’s previous remarks, where he reportedly encouraged protests against the APC government, suggesting that the governor’s actions directly contributed to the unrest.
“It is now clear to all that his government funded the violent protest that occurred in Kano. Governor Yusuf should understand that the words and actions of leaders carry weight and have dire consequences,” the statement concluded.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and good governance, urging the people of Kano to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations proceed. The party stressed the importance of holding those responsible for the violence accountable to ensure such incidents do not recur.
