The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, has urged officers and soldiers of 6 Division Nigerian combat oil thieves in the South-South region of Nigeria.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement that Yahaya gave the directive when he addressed troops during an operational visit to the division’s Area of Responsibility on Monday.

He said the oil bunkering and illegal refining of oil products were inimical to the economy of the nation, adding that the oil and gas sector was the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy.
The COAS directed troops to confront all forms of oil theft and associated crimes with renewed vigour and resolve.
He said some elements would want to test the will and resolve of the troops, urging the troops to be steadfast and tackle them headlong.
Yahaya commended the troops for their commitment and sacrifice by operating in a difficult and hazardous terrain.
He admonished them not to betray the trust reposed in them by the nation to protect the oil and gas sector, adding that they must steer clear of political activism.
The COAS, however, assured them that competence and diligence would be rewarded, while indolence and untoward behaviour would be punished.
The COAS inaugurated the remodeled accommodation for the 6 Division Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) as part of efforts to improve the welfare of personnel and their families.
He also inaugurated the 29 Battalion Medical Reception Station (MRS), Battalion motor transport yard, refurbished vehicles and newly built Battalion Soldiers’ Club. (NAN)
