The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an investigation into the alleged brutalization of a Nigerian man during an altercation involving a senior officer and two soldiers, as captured in a viral video.

This was disclosed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

โ€œThe attention of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to a viral audio-visual recording circulating on social media platforms, purportedly showing a senior Army officer and two other soldiers in an altercation with a man and woman within the Abuja metropolis,โ€ the statement read.

He added that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

โ€œHowever, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered an immediate investigation to unravel the true circumstances surrounding this altercation,โ€ Nwachukwu stated.

Reassuring Nigerians, he emphasized the Armyโ€™s commitment to the protection of all citizens. โ€œThe NA remains committed to serving and protecting all law-abiding Nigerians as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Therefore, we urge the public to be rest assured that due diligence will be applied to reach a logical conclusion on this matter,โ€ the statement concluded.

The incident, which occurred within the Abuja metropolis, has sparked public concern, with calls for justice and accountability.
