Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Nigeria’s Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, had a rare meeting in Abuja on Saturday.

The two political figures crossed paths at a wedding ceremony, which was attended by political associates and notable dignitaries from across the country.

The wedding, between Mohammed (Ameer) Bunu and Ikramullah Jamal Arabi, provided the backdrop for the unexpected encounter. At the Al-Nur Mosque in the nation’s capital, Atiku and Shettima put aside their political differences and exchanged pleasantries.

Among the attendees were Maj General Babagana Monguno (rtd), former National Security Adviser, Prof Ali Isa Pantami, immediate Past Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, as well as other prominent personalities.

It is worth noting that Atiku, a former Vice President, was defeated by President Bola Ahmed, who was supported by Shettima, under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

However, Atiku is currently challenging the victory of the APC, as he believes there were irregularities in the election process. His legal dispute with the ruling party has been ongoing, making this encounter between the two political heavyweights significant.
