Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits operating in Zamfara State have killed some villagers and unleashed terror on three communities in Bakura Local Government Area of the State.

The names of the communities were given as Sabon Gari Damri, Damri and Kalahe in Bakura Local Government Area of the State.

The Sole Administrator of Bakura Local Government, Aminu Suleiman, made the confirmation on Saturday via telephone conversation.

The bandits came in large numbers on motorcycles and began attacking villagers in Sabon Gari Damri around 2pm on Friday.

It was gathered that the terrorists killed nine people before proceeding to Damri community. They killed another four persons, including a Police officer and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“The bandits also set ablaze a Hilux vehicle belonging to the Nigeria Police.”

The bandits then killed eight persons in Kalahe community, a village between Sabon Gari Damri and Damri town.

According to Suleiman, the bandits attacked a healthcare facility in Damri town and killed some patients receiving treatment in the hospital.

“The bandits in their large numbers were on motorcycles with three persons on each motorcycle first attacked Sabon Gari Damri and killed four people,” he said.

“Later, they moved to Damri community where they burnt one Hilux vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Police, and they killed one Police officer and one Civil Defence officer.”

He said the military engaged the bandits in Damri community in a fire for fire operation, which he said forced the bandits to retreat to Sabon Gari Damri and kill another 26 persons.

“Military personnel confronted the bandits in the village which forced them to return to Sabon Gari Damri, after killing nine people at the village, they went back and killed about 21 people”

The Local Government Sole Administrator said it was confirmed that about 48 people were killed during the dastard acts.

However, the State Police Command Police and NSCDC have not made any official statement regarding the attacks.
