The Bauchi State Health Contributory Management  Agency (BASHCMA), says it has provided free medical services to 43,900 vulnerable persons in the past four months.
Dr Mansur Dada, Executive Secretary of the agency, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Bauchi.
Mansur said the vulnerable persons benefitted from free medical treatment under the Federal Government’s Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) between September and December, 2021.
He said that 44,251 persons had been targeted to participate in the programme across the 20 local government areas of the state.
The Secretary said the programme was being implemented in 323 primary healthcare facilities and 26 general hospitals in partnership between the state and Federal Government.
Mansur said that the selection of beneficiaries were done by members of the community at ward levels.
He said that funds were also disbursed to the facilities on monthly basis to facilitate smooth running of the programme.
“About N570 has been earmarked as capital for each beneficiary.
“One main primary healthcare is selected per ward across the 20 LGAs, the services include referral to secondary health facilities,” he said.
According to him, malaria is the main disease in all the facilities, adding that plans were perfected to expand the scope of the services to enhance participation in the programme in 2022.
Also speaking, Shehu Ahmed, Chairman, Ward Development Committee, Bauchi LGA, commended the gesture, adding that it improved the health status of vulnerable persons.
Ahmed said the beneficiaries were selected among the poorest of the poor, adding that they were categorised based on sex, age, pregnant women and children.
