Nasarawa Stampede: 19 Students Released, Four Still Receiving Medical Care – Commissioner

There has been a recent development regarding the incident at Nasarawa State University in Keffi. Nineteen students who were injured during a stampede last Friday have now been discharged from the hospital.

According to the state government, two students tragically lost their lives in the incident last Friday, while four others are currently receiving treatment and showing signs of improvement.

Confirming this to Channels Television in a message on Sunday, the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Margaret Elayo, expressed condolences to the families of the two students who tragically lost their lives during the recent stampede before the distribution of relief supplies to students of the State University on Keffi.

Grace Danladi and Rose Micheal, both from Nasarawa State’s western zone, were identified as the two students.

Over the weekend, the Commissioner paid a visit to Mararaba Edege in the Nasarawa local government area and Kubang village in the Panda Development Area of the Karu local government area. During the visit, the Commissioner offered condolences to the families and assured them of potential compensation from the government.

She did not address whether the state government would provide compensation to the families of the two deceased students.

The husband of the late Rose Micheal expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his wife, whom he had been married to for just under a year. Despite his devastation, he finds solace in accepting her passing as the will of God.

The district head of Edege, Aminu Enupe, expressed his gratitude for the government’s concern and emphasised the need for improved management of similar processes in the future.

“We appreciate your concern and I know that the Governor has a good heart for the students and for the people of the state otherwise he wouldn’t have gone to this extent of going to students,” he said.

“We give God the glory, whatever must happen, must happen. No matter what you do, what will happen, will happen. And it has happened mad there is nothing we can do about it. We only pray that we learn from whatever has happened.”
