A prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Abdallah Gadon-Kaya has been invited by the Bauchi state government after he alleged that a meeting to promote lesbianism and homosexuality had been held in one of the hotels in the state.

Daily News 24 reports that Dr Gadon-Kaya, in a recent sermon had claimed that he was informed of an event in a Bauchi hotel, which was paid N100 million for 10 days for a workshop to promote lesbianism and homosexuality among northern youths.

The cleric further explained that the participants were drawn from different parts of the country, adding that he was willing to provide the name of the hotel if requested.

But in an interview with journalists, the head of Bauchi Sharia Commission, Professor Hamisu Dass said the invitation of Sheikh Gado-Kaya is necessary considering the weight of the allegations.

“When we heard these claims from a revered Islamic scholar, the Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Muhammad and the Commissioner for Religious Affairs have been worried,” he said.

“Everybody knows that Bauchi state would never tolerate such immoral activities especially given the efforts of the governor to promote moral values in the state,” he added.

“Therefore, we have invited the officials of the hotel where the event was said to have happened. And we have also invited the scholar (Gado-Kaya) to come and explain what is actually happening,” Professor Dass said.

The government official also stated that a probe has been launched into the said hotel and others to ensure that activities of such nature do not occur.

But Professor Dass express sadness over how Sheikh Gadon-Kaya chose to reveal the issue in public instead of first informing the Bauchi government.

“Taking the issue to the public would make the culprits to run away or hide. But if we have been informed first, we would have taken action,” he said.
