The Benue State House of Assembly has announced the immediate suspension of the state’s 23 local government chairmen.
This comes after allegations of financial irresponsibility against these local government officials.
Daily News 24 learned that a specially formed ad hoc committee, led by Honourable Peter Ipusu, was tasked with investigating the chairmen’s conduct and the accusations. The primary goal of the committee’s investigation was to look into the chairmen’s alleged mismanagement and improper use of public funds.
During a House session on Wednesday, Honourable Peter Ipusu presented a comprehensive report containing the ad hoc committee’s findings and recommendations. This report thoroughly examined the local government chairmen’s financial transactions and shed light on any potential acts of financial recklessness or misconduct committed by them, PoliticsNigeria reports.
Based on the evidence presented by Honourable Peter Ipusu, the Benue State House of Assembly ordered the immediate suspension of all 23 local government chairmen, pending the outcome of the investigation.
