Bianca’s early education took her to prestigious institutions, including Ackworth School in Pontefract, St Andrews College in Cambridge, and Cambridge Tutorial College. She pursued a combined honors degree in Politics, Economics, and Law at the University of Buckingham but later transferred to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to focus solely on law, as her father had wished. After graduating, she attended the Nigerian Law School and was subsequently called to the bar.
Early Career
Following her law degree, Bianca briefly practiced as a lawyer but soon ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing her own cosmetics business, Bianca Blend, and an interior design company, Mirabella. Despite initial reluctance, she also took part in print commercials for her brand. Additionally, Bianca founded the Hope House Trust, an NGO focused on rehabilitating juvenile offenders in Enugu.
Pageantry
Bianca’s beauty and charm were undeniable, and she gained national recognition in 1988 when she won the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant. In 1989, she was crowned Miss Africa and went on to represent Nigeria at the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants. That same year, she made history as the first African to win the Miss Intercontinental title. Diplomacy
In 2011, Bianca was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs by then-President Goodluck Jonathan. A year later, she became Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana before her appointment as Ambassador to Spain. She held this position from 2012, representing Nigeria in one of its key diplomatic roles. She currently serves as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Controversies
Bianca’s relationship with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu attracted significant attention due to the age difference and Ojukwu’s political stature. Despite the public scrutiny, they married in 1994. Following Ojukwu’s death in 2011, his will, which left most of his assets to Bianca, sparked controversy among his extended family. Bianca stood firm, defending the legality and fairness of the will, which was drafted in 2005 and registered with proper legal witnesses.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout her career, Bianca has received several awards and honors. In 2014, she was named Africa’s Outstanding Ambassador by Dutch magazine The Voice, and in 2016, she was awarded the “Ambassador of Excellence” by the Government of Anambra State during its Silver Jubilee celebrations. She has also been recognized for her diplomatic efforts, receiving a Certificate of Merit from El Mundo Diplomatico.
