The 67-year-old pastor, seated in a wheelchair in what appeared to be a hospital, recounted the incident and thanked God for sparing his life.
โIโm so grateful. So grateful to yโall,โ Jakes said, gesturing towards medical staff. โAll the people who prayed. All the people who texted. All the people who had prayer vigils. All the people who were concerned and sent love and notes. Just grateful. Thank you.โ
Jakes clarified that while his condition was not a stroke, it was severe and could have been fatal. Reflecting on the experience, he stated, โIโm not afraid to die. The health scare occurred during Sunday services at The Potterโs House in Dallas, where Jakes was delivering a sermon. In a statement shared on social media, The Potterโs House reassured the public about his condition, saying, โDuring todayโs service, Bishop TD Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hourlong message. Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals. The entire Potterโs House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community.โ
Jakes also shared updates on his recovery, emphasizing the need for rest and reflection. โMy job is to recuperate and reflect on Godโs protection,โ he said. โI owe it to my amazing family and church members to rest and ruminate as He restores me towards His service.โ
The church has not yet announced when Bishop Jakes will resume his duties at the pulpit, but his message of gratitude and resilience has inspired many across the globe.
