Nigerian social media has erupted with a mix of celebration and mockery as popular and controversial personality Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, made his much-anticipated return to online platforms.

Bobrisky, who was convicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 5, 2024, for the mutilation of naira notes, was released from prison on August 5, 2024. His return was marked by an outburst of viral clips showcasing him reuniting with friends and celebrities.

In a series of clips shared online, Bobrisky is seen decked out in his signature glamorous attire, sharing a special piece of advice to Nigerians: to refrain from spraying naira notes at parties. The video also features Bobrisky mingling with other Nigerian celebrities including Moyo Lawal, Eniola Ajao, and celebrity stylist Luminee.

Luminee, who shared one of the videos on her page, excitedly announced Bobrisky’s release with a post that read: “Finally…O.U.TTTTTT…BOBRISKYYYYYYYYYYYYY fine die.” Bobrisky responded in the comment section with “I love you.”

The excitement has been intense as Bobrisky made his first online appearance since his release. He was seen enjoying music from Mohbad and Chike, with friends celebrating his freedom and sending congratulatory messages.

Bobrisky’s legal troubles stemmed from charges related to naira abuse, to which he had pleaded guilty before Justice A.O. Awogboro at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

On social media, reactions have been varied. OurFavOnlineDoc jokingly posted, “Lagosians erupt in joy as Bobrisky regains freedom. Lagos is no longer an orphan as the mummy of Lagos returns home!” On the other hand, Oluwaseun posted, “The werey never change,” while Onuga Carlos commented, “Another level of protest na to ban this boy.” Anyaoha Ben expressed his excitement with, “Mummy of Lagos is back!!!!!”
