The Kano State Police Command says it is obeying an order of the Federal High Court, which had restrained the Kano state government from reinstating Emir Muhammad Sanusi and aborting the five emirates in the state.
Daily News 24 reports that the state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammed Usaini Gumel said this, while briefing journalists at the state’s Police Command Headquarters in Bompai on Saturday.
CP Gumel said the Police command is working with other security agencies in the state to ensure that “laws are obeyed”.
“Law enforcement is collaborating with the military and other security agencies to guarantee adherence of court order.
“The law’s stance is unequivocal, and those who disregard it will be held accountable under the full force of the law.
“Police will ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order,” he added.
Our correspondent reports that there is palpable tension in the state following the return of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, two days after he had been deposed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Governor Yusuf, who accompanied reinstated Emir Sanusi II to the Kano Emirate Palace aka Gidan Rumfa, has also issued an order for the arrest of Mr Bayero, who he alleged was causing tension in the state.
However, a contingent of armed soldiers have already surrounded Mr Bayero’s mini Palace in Nasarawa GRA area of the city to prevent the arrest of the monarch.

Earlier, the state’s deputy governor Comrade Aminu Gwarzo has accused former governor Abdullahi Ganduje of plotting Mr Bayero’s return to Kano, allegedly to be forcefully returned to Gidan Rumfa.
Mr Gwarzo alleged that Mr Ganduje was colluding with Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adivser (NSA) to forcefully evict Emir Sanusi from the Palace and reinstall Emir Bayero on the throne.
It could be recalled that just a day after a new law sacking Emir Bayero was signed by Governor Yusuf, an ally of the 15th Emir, Aminu Babba Dan Agundi had obtained a court order restraining the Kano government from deposing Mr Bayero and his four counterparts in Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye.
The order, issued by the federal high court presided over by Justice Abdullahi Liman, ordered Governor Yusuf and seven other respondents to maintain status quo ante pending the determination of the motion.
Justice Liman had adjourned the hearing of the case to June 3, 2024.
However, at a ceremony on Friday at the Government House, where Emir Sanusi received his appointment letter, Governor Yusuf had rejected the court’s order.
The governor had alleged that Justice Liman issued the order from the United States of America (USA), where he had traveled, accusing the judge of abusing court processes and ridiculing the judiciary.
Governor Yusuf said he would file a complaint against Justice Liman to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the National Judicial Commission (NJC) for “abusing the judiciary”.
However, it was gathered that Mr Bayero, who was reportedly warned by Governor Yusuf not to return to Kano state, was said to have relied on the court order and ignored the governor’s directive.
Emir Bayero’s attempt to return to Gidan Rumfa, was nonetheless thwarted, when the governor ordered massive deployment of security agents at the palace and remained in the royal building for hours “in order to protect Sanusi”.
